59th MEETING OF THE SERBIAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY CONCLUDING REMARKS

Dear participants of the 59th Meeting of the Serbian Chemical Society, dear colleagues,

With great pleasure we announce the concluding remarks of the 59th Meeting of SCS, held on 1st and 2nd of June, 2023, at the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences.

We are pleased that the Meeting was well attended: around 150 scientists and researchers were happy to share the new results of their research in various fields of chemistry and technology.

We proudly summarize that the conference scientific program was very rich and comprehensive, and that the lectures were given by seven distinguished plenary and invited lecturers from Hungary, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia, as well as two young scientists, winners of the SCS medal for excellence and success in science. About a hundred oral and poster presentations also were highly noticed. All the presented results, especially those from the lectures, caused great attention of the attendees and a rich and fruitful discussion.

We are convinced that all the activities during the conference, including the panel discussion Problems of teaching chemistry in pre-university and university education and how to overcome them, as well as the joint dinner of the participants in the Aquadoria restaurant, served as a good basis for connections and new collaborations.

Among about eighty excellent poster announcements, the committee consisting of Sanja Panić, Melina Kalagasidis Krušić and Branka Petković declared three as the best, which received the IUPAC awards:

  1. Teona Teodora Borović: The influence of selected salicylate-based additive on the solubility and structural organization of caffeine in water
  2. Natalija Milojković: TiO2/PPy nanocomposites for photocatalytic application
  3. Milena Petrović: Design, synthesis and biological potential of novel indole-pyrazole hybrids.

Among the oral presentations in the field of medicinal chemistry, the commission consisting of Dušan Sladić, Olgica Nedić and Bojana Srećo Zelenović awarded one, whose author will have the opportunity to present the results of the research at the 10th EFMC Young Medicinal Chemist Symposium, EFMC- YMCS), which takes place on September 7-8, 2023 in Zagreb, Croatia:

Pavle A. Stojković, Ana Kostić, Ema Lupšić, Nataša Terzić Jovanović, Miroslav Novaković, Milica Pešić, Igor M. Opsenica: Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of novel sclareol derivatives.
